Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from Piastri by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his team ran a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he spun at Turn Four during the early running.
Tsunoda slid over the track edges before spinning across the escape zone, and was blessed to escape with just a light touch of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the quick descending corner leading to the final bend on to the main straight.
The veteran finished practice in P19, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's car P3, 0.619 seconds behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
